As an engagement photographer and Boston native, I always feel a little extra joy photographing love stories in the heart of the city I call home. There’s something about blending timeless romance with the charm and history of Boston that never gets old—especially when I get to capture a couple as fun, loving, and laid-back as Linnea and Kyle. Their recent MFA engagement shoot was the perfect blend of sophistication, ease, and genuine emotion, and I’m so excited to share some of their story (and a few favorite images) with you.
If you’re a couple looking for a clean, classic, and elevated backdrop for your engagement photos, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is one of my all-time favorite locations. As someone who grew up in this city and has spent years exploring every hidden gem, I can confidently say that the MFA offers one of the most stunning and versatile settings for engagement photography.
What makes the MFA so special to me is the architecture—it’s grand without being overwhelming. The neutral tones, clean lines, and marble columns create a sophisticated, serene space that lets the couple truly be the focus of every frame. There are no busy backgrounds or distractions here—just elegant structure, soft natural light, and an atmosphere that effortlessly elevates the entire session.
So when Linnea and Kyle describe the look they wanted, I knew that was exactly where we had to go.
From the moment we started planning their engagement session, I had a feeling it was going to be a good one. Linnea and Kyle are the kind of couple who make you feel like you’ve known them forever—warm, welcoming, and completely in sync with each other.
As a photographer, I always recommend an engagement session to my couples not just for the photos (though of course, that’s a huge bonus), but because it gives me the chance to really get to know them before their wedding day. It’s one of my favorite parts of the process. During our time together, I get to see how my couples naturally interact—how they laugh together, how they hold hands when they think no one’s looking, how they glance at each other mid-conversation. These are the little things that help me tell a love story that feels true to them.
And with Linnea and Kyle, that story was all about ease, laughter, and the quiet kind of connection that speaks volumes.
We met at the MFA on a crisp afternoon when the light was soft and even—the kind of light photographers dream about. We started off with some light direction and from the very first frame, Linnea and Kyle fell into a rhythm that felt completely natural. There was no stiffness, no “where do I put my hands?”—just the two of them, being together, enjoying the moment.
Linnea has this radiant energy about her, and Kyle clearly adores her. It was so evident in the way he looked at her every time she laughed or brushed a piece of hair behind her ear. And Linnea lit up whenever Kyle spoke. They made each other laugh, which gave us the most genuine, romantic, and joy-filled photos—exactly the kind of images I love to deliver.
We wandered through the colonnades and grand entrances, stopping to soak in the grandeur and beauty of each space. The museum’s architecture gave the perfect framing for their connection—clean, elegant lines surrounding intimate, emotional moments. Whether they were sharing a quiet embrace or spinning each other around mid-laugh, Linnea and Kyle brought such a sense of ease and fun to every shot.
Sessions like this one remind me why I’m so passionate about engagement photography. It’s more than just a pre-wedding photoshoot—it’s a chance for couples to slow down and really be together in the midst of all the planning. It’s also an incredible opportunity for me to see how they love each other, which directly informs how I photograph their wedding day.
Every couple has a different rhythm. Some are full of playful energy, others are quiet and soft-spoken. My job is to tune into that rhythm, to observe and gently guide without interrupting what makes their connection special. The more I understand who my couples are and how they express love, the better I can tell their story through my lens.
With Linnea and Kyle, I saw a couple who felt grounded and completely at home in each other’s presence. They were laid-back, had full trust in me, and were so clearly in love. From walking hand-in-hand through the museum columns to snuggling into each other’s arms on the museum steps, their session was full of those little, in-between moments that tell the biggest story.
One of the best parts of spending time with Linnea and Kyle during their engagement session is knowing how much more meaningful their wedding day coverage will be. I’ve already seen how they naturally connect, how they express love, and how they photograph together. That knowledge allows me to approach their wedding day with even more intention and insight.
When the wedding day comes, we’ll already have that comfort and trust built in. They’ll know what to expect from being in front of my camera, and I’ll know how to capture the essence of their relationship in a way that feels completely authentic to them.
If you’re newly engaged and looking for a photographer who knows the Boston area like the back of her hand, I’d love to talk. Whether it’s the Museum of Fine Arts, Beacon Hill, the Public Garden, or some hidden neighborhood gem, I’ll help you find the perfect backdrop that reflects your story and style.
But more importantly, I’m here to make sure your experience feels relaxed, fun, and meaningful. I believe your engagement session should be more than just a box to check off—it should be a celebration of the season you’re in, a time to connect with each other, and a chance to create beautiful memories that reflect the heart of your relationship.
Linnea and Kyle’s session was the perfect example of that, and I feel so honored to be the one capturing this special chapter in their story.
